Post subject:  Fish Glue Problem?

Hi All

I have some fish glue that is apx. 8 months old and there looks to be some separation. Picture below. Before I get in touch with Lee Valley about this, has anyone seen this? Is it normal and I should just stir/shake it back up? It has been in my temperature and humidity controlled shop for the entire time. Thanks - Mike

Hi Michael,

I use fish glue all the time and do notice that it will separate a bit when left sitting for a long time. I go through a pile of this stuff and my bottles never last more than 3 months before they are used up, so I've never seen them separate like your. My guess is that if you stir it up you'll be fine. It does have a shelf life of around 2 years. If I grab a new bottle that has been sitting a while I will tip it up and down several times or give it a quick stir.

My guess is you are ok to keep using it, but maybe some others can add there thoughts as well.

Michael. note the Storability - Excellent (Freeze-Thaw Stable)
I split my bottle up, and store them in the freezer.
In small plastic bottles, it only takes a coffee break for one to be ready to go.
(Same for my made up Hide glue)

I've had that happen multiple times and just shake it up. Works for me.

Fish glue should always be shaken or stirred well before use, as it does settle and separate.
